Fireball Stakes Victory To Beadman First Up

With two trials under his belt, Peter Snowden’s flashy Snitzel colt Beadman was ready to go first-up, resuming at Randwick with victory in the $200,000 Listed ATC Fireball Stakes (1100m), his second black type victory.

In the small seven horse field, James McDonald jumped the race favourite Beadman away well from the middle of the line, settling in fourth position with the Nathan Doyle trained Hidden Motive (Capitalist) going forward to take up the running.

Jockey Tim Clark skipped two lengths clear aboard Hidden Motive as the field headed into the home straight, but it was clear that both Beadman and the Kia Ora Stud colour-bearer Inkaruna had plenty to offer as they set out after the leader.

With Beadman hitting the lead with 100m to run, Inkaruna finally had the opportunity to come off their heels, and although the Zac Lloyd ridden son of I Am Invincible charged late, he missed the prize as Beadman held on to record victory.

With three wins, twice at black type level, from seven starts with a further three placed efforts, Beadman took his earnings to $354,625.

The victory of Beadman saw the colt firm into second favourite for the $1m G1 The Galaxy on March 21, a race trainer Peter Snowden is keen to target.

“It was good to see him do that, he ran smart time, too,” Snowden said.

“He did get a bit keen mid-race and I'm still working him out but he definitely has the talent.

“I think this win might get him into The Galaxy now. I know that is a big aim but that is the belief I have in this horse.”

“Beadman has always shown me a lot of ability but everything takes time and he is still learning.

“His race-craft has to get a bit better and I'm sure it will.

‘He has all the natural attributes, he's got the talent, he has a very good demeanour - he has a name that might hold him back a little bit - but he's very promising.”

Newgate Farm’s Henry Field indicated that he was keen to also see the colt head to The Galaxy.

“The Galaxy has always been the plan,” Field said.

“He's a big, gross colt and whatever he did today the expectation is he has a lot of improvement to come.

“James made the comment when he got to the front he started 'floating' so he will be better again in The Galaxy.

"They always go hard in that race so the tempo will be good for him.”

Purchased by China Horse Club, Newgate, Go Bloodstock and Trilogy for $900,000 from the Magic Millions yearling sale draft of Arrowfield Stud who co-bred the colt with Hermitage Thoroughbreds, Beadman is the best of three winners from French stakes-winner Iffranesia (Fr), herself a daughter of influential sire Iffraaj.

Iffranesia has an unnamed 2yo colt by Snitzel, foaled a colt by Dundeel last season before being covered by The Autumn Sun in the spring.

Beadman is one 168 stakes winner for Arrowfield’s champion sire Snitzel, who will be represented by a mouth-watering selection of 43 yearlings at the Inglis Easter yearling sale.
