Newgate Farm’s Golden Slipper winning sire Stay Inside added a new winner to his tally at Canterbury on Monday when The Machine Gun made a winning debut for the Peter Snowden stable.
Placed at the official Sydney 2YO trials last spring, The Machine Gun has been a work in progress with a series of barrier trials following that effort, most recently winning a 1000m heat at Gosford last month.

Fitted with visors for his debut, Tim Clark had The Machine Gun settled nicely in fourth before he loomed up three wide to challenge on the turn.
The Machine Gun was tenacious to the line holding off a late bid from race favourite Klocke, who hit the line hard for second beaten a neck in the 1250m maiden.
“He's pretty casual. I just wanted to build his revs up before they quickened, so he was up and traveling forward into the race, especially around here, and he did that,” said Tim Clark.
“He picked up nicely, but then thought the job was done at about 100m. When he felt the second horse coming, he really surged again late, so he's a nice horse.
“He's still obviously very raw and working it out, but he's got a nice future.
“He's always shown good promise. It's taken a while to get him there, but the best is well and truly ahead of him.”

The Machine Gun was a $300,000 Magic Millions purchase from Blue Gum for Jason Warren Racing/Trilogy Syndications/Suman Hedge Bloodstock and runs in the colours of his breeder Trilogy Racing.
He is the first winner for Group III placed Street Boss (USA) mare Don’ttelltheboss, whose yearling colt by Russian Revolution was sold at the Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale for $65,000.
Don’ttelltheboss has been a regular visitor to Newgate and had a colt by Ozzmosis last spring.
The Machine Gun is the eighth winner for Stay Inside, who stands at a fee of $66,000 this spring.
