Two promising colts making their debut fought out the finish of a Canterbury maiden on June 8 and The Machine Gun and Klocke went head to head again at Eagle Farm on Saturday filling the quinella in the $160,000 Listed Tattersalls Stakes (1400m).

Trained by Peter Snowden, The Machine Gun has taken time for the penny to drop and had five trials before making a winning debut and while punters thought Klocke might have been unlucky that day and could turn the tables, the Stay Inside colt had other ideas.

Ridden again by Tim Clark, who was on board for his first win, The Machine Gun travelled smoothly back in the field from his wide gate and loomed into contention at the 300m mark.

He was tenacious to the line and once again proved a shade too good for Klocke in scoring by a head in a bobbing finish.

The Machine Gun is now two for two and has banked over $122,000 in prizemoney with his trainer keen to look towards the spring.

“Good result for this colt as it’s only his second start and he's been a slow learner and a lazy trackworker, but I don't mind now,” said Peter Snowden.

“He's got a good pedigree and he's a lovely type of horse, but he's just been so laid back, I just couldn't work out whether he was ready or not ready, or whether he needed gelding or not, but there's no way gelding him now!

“He's won a stakes race, so he’ll definitely have a short spell now and stay up here for three or four weeks, and then we will bring him back for the spring and see what happens.”

The Machine Gun was a $300,000 Magic Millions purchase from Blue Gum for Jason Warren Racing/Trilogy Syndications/Suman Hedge Bloodstock and runs in the colours of his breeder Trilogy Racing.

He is the first winner for Group III placed Street Boss (USA) mare Don’ttelltheboss, whose yearling colt by Russian Revolution was sold at the Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale for $65,000.

Don’ttelltheboss has been a regular visitor to Newgate and had a colt by Ozzmosis last spring.

The Machine Gun is the fourth stakes-winner for Newgate Farm’s Golden Slipper winner for Stay Inside joining Blue Door, Incognito and Lassified.

Stay Inside is priced at $66,000 this spring.
